Privacy Policy
youHungry? ("we", "us", "our") helps people decide where to eat by creating shared sessions, swiping restaurant options, and matching. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Information We Collect
- Account and profile data: if you sign in with Google, we may receive your email address, display name, and profile photo.
- Guest account data: if you continue as a guest, we create an anonymous account identifier.
- Social and session data: friend connections, friend requests, session invites, participants, swipes, matches, and optional post-match ratings.
- Location input: approximate device location (if you grant permission) or a location you type/search for.
- Restaurant search data: location coordinates, search radius, and selected category filters used to fetch place results.
- Notification data: on supported mobile devices, your push preference and Expo push token when notifications are enabled.
- Technical and diagnostic data: basic logs and error information used to secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
How We Use Information
- Authenticate users and maintain account access.
- Operate core features like invites, swiping, and matching.
- Show nearby places based on selected location and radius.
- Send optional session-related push notifications.
- Protect the service, prevent abuse, and fix bugs.
- Comply with legal obligations.
How We Share Information
- With other users you interact with: your display name, profile photo, and session activity are visible to invited participants and friends as needed for app functionality.
- With service providers: we use infrastructure and platform providers (such as Firebase/Google Cloud, Google Maps Platform, and Expo notification services) to run the app.
- For legal and safety reasons: when required by law or necessary to protect users, rights, or the service.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data Retention
We retain account and app data while your account is active or as needed to operate the service. You can request deletion by deleting your account in-app. Account deletion removes your profile and related account data; because sessions are shared records, this may also remove associated session history.
Your Choices and Controls
- You can use a guest account instead of Google sign-in.
- You can enable or disable location permissions through your device settings.
- You can enable or disable push notifications in app/device settings.
- You can delete your account from within the app.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, but no system can be guaranteed 100% secure.
Children's Privacy
youHungry? is not directed to children under 13 (or a higher age where required by local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and update the "Last updated" date.
